Norman, who was born about 1670, was known throughout the Highlands and Islands as TORMOD MORE (Big Norman). He was joint factor with Roderick MacLeod, 1st of the Uilinish family, in 1706, on the MacLeod Estates, and thereafter MacLeod of MacLeod appointed him to police Glenelg, whisch was in those days frequently raided by Lochaber cattle-lifters. He removed from Drynoch to the tack of Ellanriach, where he built a good house for his family. The house at Drynoch was allowed to fall into decay. TORMOD MOR married, as his first wife, a lady of the name of Ross, and by her had issue. Norman (TORMOD MOR) MacLeod married, as his second wife, a Miss M. MacKenie, of Scatwell, with issue.
