!BIOGRAPHY: Rev. Dr. Donald MacKinnon and Alick Morrison, THE MACLEODS--THE GENEALOGY OF A CLAN, Section II, Edinburgh, The Clan MacLeod Society, 1968, p. 12. Was born, on 30th November 1818, in Coll Castle, Island of Coll, and went out to Van Diemen's Land, in 1820, with his parents and brothers and sisters. He was educated at King's School, Parramatta, New South Wales, and, in August 1845, took up Benyeo Station, consisting of 35,000 acres, which he sold in December 1880, and retired to Geelong. Hugh Laurence married, on 30th November 1848, at Christ Church, Geelong, Elizabeth Ann Hines, who was born at Launceston, Tasmania, on 16th November 1828, and died, on 10th August 1899, at Geelong. Hugh Laurence died, on 9th March 1892, at Geelong, having had issue.
