Edinburgh, The Clan MacLeod Society, 1970, p. 36.
Was born on 11th March 1831, and was educated at the University of
Glasgow, where he graduated B.A. in 1851. He was licensed by the
Presbytery of Glasgow on 2nd May 1855, and was ordained to Lauder on
18th March 1858. He was translated to Linlithgow on 10th July 1862,
and to The Park, Glasgow, on 24th June 1869. He received the doctorate
of divinity of Glasgow in 1876, and was Moderator of the General
Assembly in May 1895. Dr. MacLeod was one of the
Chaplains-in-ordinary to Queen Victoria, King Edward, and George V. On
the death of his brother, Dr. Norman MacLeod of The Barony, Glasgow, he
took over the editorship of the popular monthly GOOD WORDS. Dr. Donald
MacLeod resigned from The Park Church on 24th November 1909, and
died, on 11th February 1916, in the act of shaking hands with a friend in
Glasgow, where he had been on a visit. [An account of Dr. Donald
MacLeod's life and ministry, under the title -- DONALD MACLEOD OF
GLASGOW, A MEMOIR AND A STUDY, by Sydney Smith, appeared in 1926.]
He married, on 23rd August 1864, Isabella (who died, on 7th October
1923, at Caputh), daughter of James Anderson of Highholm, Port
Glasgow, with issue.
