3. The Right Hon. Sir Archibald MacDonald, a posthumous son, born
1747; was called to the English bar, appointed one of the King's counsel
learned in the law, constituted a Welsh judge in 1780; solicitor-general,
7th April 1784; attorney-general, 28th June 1788, and knighted. He was
elected Member of Parliament for Hindon, on a vacancy, in 1777; for
Newcastle-under-Lyne, at the general election 1780; rechosen 1784 and
1790. Being consituted Lord Chief Baron of the Court of Exchequer, a
new writ was ordered, 12th Febraury 1793. His Lordship is [1813] a
privy-councillor; and married, 26th December 1777, Lady Louisa Leveson
Gower, eldest daughter of Granville, first Marquis of Stafford, and had
seven children.
