John, the second son, and Angus the Fair, the youngest, had gone to Mull to wait on Sir John M'Lean of Dowart, about business; and it happened the very next day after their arrival in the island, that Sir John was engaged to fight with the M'Donalds of Lairg. Since this was the case, the two brothers would not be dissuaded from joining them in the engagement, in which, alas! John was killed. It was reported in Sky, that Angus the Fair was likewise found among the slain, which gave occasion to the elegy that was made of him, in which were described with great propriety and elegance, his beauty, courage and valour. He had two sons both children when he fell. The eldest Peter was a physician. He died without succession. The other Duncan had a son called Christopher, who had a son named John. And John had two sons, Duncan and Peter. [Manuscript History of the Bethunes of the Island of Sky.] Angus, who had the appellation of the Fair, the sixth and youngest son, married a daughter of Campbell of Ronsay in the long island, by whom he had two sons, Ferquhard and Donald.
