John Š was born on 8th July 1794, and was Captain in the Bombay
Engineers. Because of his proficiency as a linguist, he was appointed
Aide-de-Camp and Persion Interpreter to the Hon. Mount-Stuart
Elphinstone, when he was Governor Bombay. Afterwards Captain MacLeod
was appointed Resident and Political Agent at Bushire, where he died,
1824, unmarried.
