Was born, on 26th October 1850, in India, and succeeded his father as 17th of the MacLeans of Boreray. He became a tea planter in Ceylon. In 1891 he married, as his first wife, Alice, youngest daughter of his cousin, Henry D. MacLeod. She died, in 1892, in Ceylon, leaving a child, who died in infancy. Alexander Duncan MacLean married, as his second wife, Isabel A. MacLean, without issue, and died, on 7th August 1924, at Plymouth. He was the last MacLean of Boreray in the direct line.
