ALEXANDER, who, according to Mackenzie, in his " History of the MacIeods," left no issue. The late Rev. Donald Mackinnon, D.D., ofStrath, Skye, in MS. Progenitor of the MacLeods of Swordlan in Glenelg. The MacLeod family of Swordlan in Glenelg was descended from Alexander MacLeod, 2nd of the MacLeods of Glendale [See note, The MacLeods of Glendale]. Alexander, second son of Alexander, 2nd of Glendale, was its progenitor. The BANNATYNE MANUSCRIPT, followed by Alexander MacKenzie, in his HISTORY OF THE MACLEODS (p. 208)], says that Alexander MacLeod of Swordlan died, leaving no issue, but the Rev. Donald MacKinnon, D.D., in his NOTES ON THE MACLEODS OF ARNISDALE, maintains that he had at least one son, Angus, who succeeded him at Swordlan. It is not known when Alexander MacLeod, 1st of Swordlan, died.
