the 18th Royal Irish in January 1892. Promoted Lieutenant in the
following year, he was appointed to the Punjab Frontier Force in 1894.
He took part in operations in Waziristan in 1894-95, the Chitral Relief
Force and was actively employed with his corps in the Malakand Field
Force in 1897. In all these operations, Lt. John MacAskill behaved with
distinction.
