!SOURCE: Alick Morrison, THE MACLEODS -- THE GENEALOGY OF A CLAN, Section V, "Appendix: The MacLeods of Trumpan and Millivaig", Edinburgh, The Associated Clan MacLeod Societies, 1976, p. 19. Murdoch... was a seaman, and was known as "Sailor Murdoch". He was born in Skye about 1770. When his wife and young son, John, emigrated to North Carolina in 1802, he was at sea. When he returned and found that they had emigrated, he made his way to North Carolina, where he joined them. An alternative story, considered unreliable, states that Murdoch emigrated with his wife and young son, but that a storm at sea wrecked their ship, and they were separated. This story states that he was conscripted into the military service and subsequently followed his wife and son to North Carolina. His will is recorded in the Cumberland County Courthouse in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and is dated 1843. He is probably buried in the small unmarked cemetery on Field Branch of Rockfish Creek, where they settled in what is now Fort Bragg reservation, North Carolina. He married Effie MacInnes, in Skye, with issue.
