John... was born February 12, 1801, in Skye, and emigrated with his mother, leaving Skye in August, 1802, on board the vessel "Duke of Kent", under a Captain Thompson, with 600 other Highlanders, arriving at Wilmington, North Carolina, October 30th 1802. He was a farmer and hatter and move to Moore County, where he built a home which still stands. He died on January 25 1864, and is buried in Bethesda Cemetery, Aberdeen, North Carolina. He was a deacon at Bethesda Church for twenty years. He married Flora Johnson, sister of Sheriff Alex Johnson, of Cumberland County, North Carolina, December 6 1831, with issue.
