!SOURCE: Rev. Dr. Donald MacKinnon and Alick Morrison, THE MACLEODS -- THE GENEALOGY OF A CLAN, Section III, "MacLeod Cadet Families", Edinburgh, The Clan MacLeod Society, 1970, p. 63. [There were several MacLeod familes of Glendale, but the family descended from Alexander, second son of Alexander MacLeod, 1st of Liosail, was the oldest of them all, and is here designated, for the sake of convenience, the 'first MacLeod family of Glendale'. Dr. Bannatyne William MacLeod, compiler of the BANNATYNE MANUSCRIPT, clearly mishandled the succession of the heads of the Glendale family from its progenitor, Alexander Og, down to Alexander, his own great-grandfather. The succession, given in this account of the family, is based on a Manuscript Account of the MacLeods of Arnisdale, entitled NOTES ON THE MACLEODS OF ARNISDALE, by the Rev. Donald MacKinnon, D.D., minister of Strath, Skye, who was a competent genealogist. From Alexander (Dr. Bannatyne W. MacLeod's great-grandfather) downwards the succession as given in the BANNATYNE MANUSCRIPT is followed, and, for the succession after Dr. MacLeod's death, the compiler is indepted to Lieut.-Colonel Ronald T. W. MacLeod's FAMILY RECORDS.] This MacLeod family of Glendale was descended from Alexander MacLeod, 1st of the MacLeods of Liosail in the district of Minginish in the MacLeod 'country', who was third son of Norman MacLeod, 4th of the MacLeods of Waternish. The second son of Alexander MacLeod, 1st of the MacLeods of Liosail, was: Alexander, the progenitor of this family of Glendale, was known as ALASDAIR OG (Alexander the younger) to distinguish him from his father, Alexander, 1st of Liosail. He married Marsaline, daughter of Roderick MacNeil, 10th of the MacNeils of Barra, with issue. Alasdair Og was at the battle of Worcester, and was taken prisoner. He died a few days thereafter, and was succeeded by his son.
