Harry John Bannatyne was born, on 1st September 1824, at Dumdum,
India, and joined the Horse Artillery as Second Lieutenant on 11th
December 1841. He was appointed First Lieutenant on 3rd July 1845,
Captain on 20th June 1856, and Lieutenant-Colonel on 29th February
1864. He retired as Colonel on 19th October 1869. Among the
decorations he received was the Mutiny Medal with 2 clasps. Colonel
MacLeod married, on 26th April 1859, Christiana, eldest daughter of
Edward Cox of Fernhill, Mulgoa, New South Wales, with issue.
Colonel Harry John Bannatyne MacLeod died, on 3rd August 1877, at 4
Fettes Row, Edinburgh, and was buried in Warriston Cemetery, where his
wife, who died in 1907, was also buried. He was succeeded in the
representation of the MacLeods of Glendale by his elders son.
