MACLEODS--THE GENEALOGY OF A CLAN, Section II, Edinburgh, The Clan
MacLeod Society, 1968, pp. 127, 129. Succeeded his uncle in 1876. In
1875 he joined the Black Watch, and rose to the rank of Captain in 1886.
He served with his Regiment in Egypt and the Sudan from 1882 to 1884,
adn was wounded at El Teb and Tamai. He was mentioned in despatches
by Lord Wolseley. He served in the 3rd Battalion of the Cameron
Highlanders (Militia) from 1892 to 1908, and as Colonel comanding the
Regiment from 1903 to 1908. Col. Norman MacLeod was a Justice of the
Peace for Morayshire and a Deputy Lieutenant of the County. He married
in 1891, Laura Emily Catherine, eldest daughter of William James of
Charlmont, Edgbaston, Birmingham, with issue.
