Kenneth, fourth Earl of seaforth, the eldest son, succeeded his father 1678, was served heir male of Kenneth, Lord Mackenzie of Kintail, his great grandfather, in lands in the lordship of Ardmannoch and earldom of Ross, 1st March 1681; was nominated one of the knights of the Thistle, on the revival of that order, 1687, and sworn a privy-councillor to King James VII. He followed that monarch to France at the revolution; attended him to Ireland; was by him created Marquis of Seaforth, and died at Paris in January 1701. He married Lady Frances Herbert, second daughter of William, Marquis of Powis (created Duke of Powis by King James after his abdication), by Lady Elisabeth Somerset, daughter of Edward, Marquis of Worcester, and by her, who died at Paris, 16th December 1732, had issue.
