"He got a charter of confirmation under the great seal from king Charles I. 'Donaldo MacLeod de Assynt, etc.' confirming to him and his heirs, the lands of Annot, and others, in Inverness-shire, and united to the barony of Assynt, etc. the confirmation is dated 21st of November 1642. "He married, 1st, Marian Mackay, daughter of Donald first lord Reay, (omitted in the Peerage, page 570,) and by her had two sons and two daughters. "1. Neil, his heir. "2. Donald, who died without issue. "1st daughter, married to ____ Gordon, a younger son of the earl of Sutherland. "2. ___, married, to ____ Gun of Killernan, progenitor of MacKaimess. "He married, 2dly, Christian, daughter of Nicolas Ross of Pitcalnie, by whom he had two sons. "1. Donald, of whom there is no succession. "2. Hugh of Cambuscurry, who married Christian, daughter of Walter Ross of Invercarren, by whom he had three sons. 1. Roderick of Cambuscurry, who married Mary, daughter of Hugh Monro of Newmore, by whom he had two sons. Angus, and George, and four daughters. 1. Isabel. 2. Christian. 3. Elisabeth. 4. Helen, all honourably married. Roderick, son of Angus married Janet, daughter of Alexander Mackenzie of Davachmaluach, by whom he had only one daughter, Mary, married to John Urquhart of Mount Eagle. Hugh's second son was Aeneas MacLeod of Catboll, who married Margaret, eldest daughter of sir Kenneth Mackenzie of Scatwell, by whom he had three sons. Roderick, George, and Hugh, and one daughter, Frances, married to Hugh Rose of Clava. The two younger sons, George and Hugh left no succession; and Aeneas of Catboll was succeeded by his eldest son, Roderick MacLeod of Catboll, who married Lilias, daughter of William Mackenzie of Balmaduthie, by whom he has a son, Robert Bruce Aeneas, and a daughter, Margaret. Hugh's third son, Alexander of Sallachie married and had several sons and daughters. "Donald of Assynt was succeeded by his eldest son."
