!BIOGRAPHY: Rev. Dr. Donald MacKinnon and Alick Morrison, THE MACLEODS--THE GENEALOGY OF A CLAN, Section II, Edinburgh, The Clan MacLeod Society, 1968, pp. 9-10. He was a Lieut.-Colonel in Colonel Campbell's Regiment of Highlanders. Afer his retiral, he became tacksman of Claigean, near Dunvegan, and, as one of the principal gentlemen of the Clan MacLeod, was in attendance on the Chief, when Dr. Johnson and James Boswell paid their memorable visit to Dunvegan Castle in September 1773. Colonel MacLeod married Margaret Isabella, daughter of John MacDonald of Sirinish, Snizort, Sheriff-Substitute of Inverness-shire (of the MacDonalds of Castleton), with issue.
