!SOURCE: Rev. Dr. Donald MacKinnon, THE MACLEODS: THE GENEALOGY OF A
CLAN, Section III, "Cadet Families", Edinburgh, The Clan MacLeod Society,
1970, p. 138.
Lauchlan... was born about 1716, for, on 12th May 1760, he is described
as 'being forty-four years of age or thereby', [MACKINNON FORFEITED
ESTATE PAPERS, H. M. Register House, Edinburgh.] and was tacksman of
Tarscabhaig, Sleat in 1735; he was joint-tacksman with his father of
Breckish and Pabbay from 1736 to 1738, and he was tacksman of Elgol
from 1739 to 1760, and probably ended his life there. He married Mary,
daughter of Angus MacDonald, tacksman of Aird, Sleat (of the MacDonalds
of Castleton), with issue. [The Castleton family derives its descent
from Donald, youngest son of Sir Donald MacDonald, 1st Baronet of Sleat.
The account of this family, given in CLAN DONALD (III, pp. 517-23), is
confused and incorrect. Mary is given as a daughter of Angus MacDonald
(ibid., p. 520), but her marriage to Lauchlan MacKinnon is omitted. It is,
however, mentioned in the MACDONALD [MACKINNON?] FORFEITED ESTATE
PAPERS.
