!BIOGRAPHY: Rev. Dr. Donald MacKinnon and Alick Morrison, THE
MACLEODS--THE GENEALOGY OF A CLAN, Section II, Edinburgh, The Clan
MacLeod Society, 1968, p. 35.
Escaped from Culloden Moor and joined the French Army, where he
acquired a useful knowledge of the French language. He was pardoned,
returned to Britain and joined the Army. It was this gallant officer, who
was first in scaling the Heights of Abraham in Canada in 1759, answered
the challenge of the French sentry in excellent French, thereby enabling
General Wolfe's army to assemble on the summit of the Rock, without
causing undue alarm. He was killed at the siege of Quebec in 1760 and
was unmarried.
