John Leslie, A.R.S.M., ...was born on 23rd May 1903, was educated at Haileybury College and the Nautical College, Pangourne, Berks. After a short spell in the Merchant Service, he entered the Royal School of Mines, South Kensington, of which he became an Associate. Here he was President of the Students' Union and Captain of Rugby football, boxing and athletics. Thereafter he became a field officer in various oil companies in the Balkans, Trinidad, Portugal, Ecuador, India and Turkey. On retirement, he became 'mine host' at the Red Lion Hotel, Lindfield, Sussex, where he died on 3rd May 1969 and was cremated at Worth Crematorium, Sussex. He married on the 5th April 1933 Sylvia, only daughter of the later Herbert Sanderson Watson and his wife Olive Barbar Thompson, with issue.
