Succeeded his father in Coll on his death on 4th May 1786. He was known as Alasdair Ruadh, and was for some time a Captain in the Argyll Fencible Regiment. He was appointed Lieut.-Colonel in the Breadalbane Fencibles in 1794. He married Catherine, daughter of Captain Allan Cameron of Glendessary, with issue.
