ACMS & CLAN MACLEOD SOCIETY OF NEW ZEALAND
CLAN MACLEOD SOCIETY OF NEW ZEALAND
ANNUAL REPORT FOR YEAR 1st APRIL2008- 31st MARCH 2009
It has been a relatively quiet year nationally for the Society with no Clan dignitaries visiting New Zealand.
The Clan Council held its AGM on May 10th at Ian &Dot's home in Napier. The proceedings of that meeting are well documented in the minutes of it. The Society sent its best wishes to the Canadian Society in July on the occasion of The North American Gathering which was held in Ottawa. President Ian also sent the meeting instructions to Elizabeth MacLeod who acted as proxy for New Zealand at the ACMS Management Council meeting which was held there. This meeting replaced the normal October meeting. In early October President Ian F. Macleod represented Clan MacLeod at the sad occasion of Trevor Davey's funeral. This is well reported in the Canterbury Society's report. In November Ian sent Season's Greetings to The Chiefs, ACMS Officers , fellow National Society Presidents and the presidents of the Australian Regional Societies. These were reciprocated. On New Year's Day as per usual Clan MacLeod was represented by The Helensville and Auckland Societies at the Waipu Highland Games. In February , Rona and Jeremy Cooper represented Clan Macleod at the Turakina Highland Games. Also in February , Rose Fleming acted as New Zealand proxy for the ACMS Management Council Meeting at which a motion from New Zealand was passed making the ACMS Treasurer responsible for the billing and collection of the ACMS Levy in Pounds Stg. This is to make sure that a correct currency conversion is made and so make the levy payable at the true rate of exchange. Also at that meeting it was proposed that at a music competition be established as a fitting memorial to The Late Chief John. This is on the Agenda for The 2009 New Zealand Clan Council Meeting.
I wish to thank my fellow officers for their diligent attention to their duties.Fiona has kept a very wary eye on the Society's finances to ensure that we are in a sound financial position. Ross is thanked for producing two excellent New Zealand News letters in July and December and for maintaining the New Zealand Pages on the Clan Website.
I wish to thank all the Regional Society Officers and their members for keeping their societies active and meeting as they see fit to carry out their aims and objects. Membership of societies such as ours seems to be a problem these days but with some revolutionary thinking and action the problems could well be overcome.
We must HOLD FAST and keep plodding along to ensure that Clan MacLeod keeps alive the Clan Family Spirit for which our Clan is well noted.
All Clan members and the regional Societies are wished all the very best for The Year 1st April 2009 -31st March 2010
Ian F. Macleod , President
