What does NRG mean?

If you were between the ages of 18-30 you probably didn’t want to spend all your time with the “old people” at Parliament.  It’s always more fun to socialize with those your own age.

“At the 1965 Parliament, a group of younger MacLeods met separately in the North Room of the Castle and they became known as the North Room Group (N.R.G. – Energy). To these Dame Flora gave her particular attention, for she regarded them as future leaders. She hoped that delegates to Parliament would increasingly be less those who could afford the journey or enjoyed the trip than those who were of value to the organisation, if necessary supported financially from their national Society. ‘I believe the clan has started a movement,’ she wrote, ‘which will mean something to the world. I foresee the day when we shall have an international Clan Parliament at Inverness with two representatives from every country and clan.’”

From ‘The Biography of Dame Flora MacLeod of MacLeod’ by Anne Wolrige Gordon

At the 2018 Parliament, the NRG suggested a more modern name be used for the 18-30 age group in keeping with the times, and they were rebranded as Young MacLeods.  It is, however, very important to remember the motivation behind the beginnings of the NRG.
